Missions
In 2007, Hurricane Noel hit the Dominican Republic and especially the village of La Piedra. Through our partners in ministry, New Life is helping to send a 40' container of relief supplies for La Piedra. Items of need include: food, clothing (good condition), bedding, mattresses and first aid items. Please keep the people of La Piedra and the local church in Pimentel in your prayers. Land has recently been purchased to relocate some 50 families to an area less prone to flooding.
Why Missions? Jesus told his disciples to share good news of the Gospel to all nations. As the angel told the shepherds that first Christmas, the Savior is "for all people" (Luke 2:10). About 33 years later, after rising from the dead, Jesus told his disciples "In this way it has been written, that the Chirst would suffer and rise again from the dead the thid day, and that repentance unto forgiveness of sins is to be preached in His name to all nations, begining at Jerusalem." (Luke 24:46-47). Jesus earthly life started with an announcement to all nations and in his parting words before his ascention he called his church to missions. It is on God's heart to reach the world with the Gospel. At New Life we are blessed to participate in reaching the world through the missionaries we support. Below is a quick snap shot of the missionaries we support.

Dominican Republic Three members of New Life made their way to the DR from July 9-17 to serve the Lord in medical work, VBS, construction, and evangelism. The ministry was conducted under Youth For Christ in cooperation with the Pimentel Project, Incorporated. The work was centered in Pimentel, the 25th largest city in the DR, a country with a population of over 9 million. The medical team went to several locations where the gospel was presented, families were given "family packs" of common medicines, Dr. Tom and other nurses saw several patients. Pastor John helped in the pharmacy and picked on little kids on the basketball court :). The team also conducted four days of VBS for nearly 400 kids. Our own Louise Hall was in charge of crafts and did a splendid job. James Smithson also provided support for the medical team. In addition, we conducted some evening street corner crusades. Pastor John was able to present the gospel through a translator and several recognized their need for Jesus Christ! Click here to open up an album with a few pictures from the trip, but the best way to experience cross-cultural missions is to go.
